The Man
Jesus was born in a small rural town roughly 2,000 years ago. He was born into a humble family, to a teenage virgin mother. He lived a relatively quiet life until the age of 30 when He began his public ministry. Throughout the next three years, Jesus performed miracles, preached messages and proclaimed He was God by His word and His works. As promised by the Old Testament Scriptures, Jesus was crucified on a Roman cross to save humanity from sin, Satan and death. On the third day, Jesus rose from death and appeared to hundreds before ascending into the clouds to join His heavenly Father.

The Mission
Jesus arrived on the stage of human history with a mission. He was to reveal who God is, to show His reign as King and to reconcile men and women to God. In reconciling us to God, Jesus lived and died as a sacrificial substitute, living perfectly in the place of sinners, and dying gruesomely in the place of the guilty. Jesus is therefore the Savior of the world, the only way for sinners to be saved from the righteous wrath of God. Jesus accomplished His mission through His death, atoning for our sin, and through His resurrection, rising in victory over Satan, sin and death.

What is Baptism?
The Bible tells us that once we find salvation in Christ, the next step in obedience to Him is to be baptized. Christian baptism is an important and personal display of faith, and one which is shared publicly as a testimony to a Christian’s commitment to following Jesus. It signifies that we are dead to our former life of sin, made clean, and resurrected to a new life in Jesus Christ.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ – Matthew 28:19

Baptism is how we go public with our faith in Christ. If you are considering being baptized, or have any questions regarding baptism, call us at 865.922.3490.

How can I be baptized?
We host baptism at any worship service or throughout the year at special occasions! Contact us if you are ready to take this exciting next step.

What does it mean to join a church family?
Church members commit to joining a spiritual family who provides encouragement and support. They are called to a higher degree of responsibility, service, and sacrifice. Our pastors and ministry leaders pledge to assist our members with care, counsel, prayer, and teaching. It’s our hope that you will commit to being a part of the Salem family!

Four Reasons to Join…

It’s Biblical

Christ is committed to the church. “…Christ loved the church, and gave himself up for her.” (Ephesians 5:25 ESV)

It’s Counter-Cultural

It is an antidote to our society. We live in an age when people resist being committed to anything – a job, a marriage, our country. Partnership swims against the current of America’s “consumer religion.” It is an unselfish decision.

It’s Practical

It defines those upon whom we can depend. Every team must have a roster. Every school must have an enrollment. Every business has a payroll. Every army has an enlistment. Even our country takes a census and requires voter registration. Joining a church identifies our church family.

It’s Healthy
It produces spiritual growth. The Bible gives major emphasis for the need of Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you’re not committed to a specific church family.

What’s required to join Salem?
The requirements for becoming a part of Salem Baptist Church are simple:
1. Confirm God's leading in this partnership.
2. Trust Christ by faith for salvation. We want you to share your testimony about your salvation experience.
3. Be baptized by immersion.

A great place to start is by attending the next Discover Salem gathering!
