For more information about Operation Christmas Child, visit www.samaritanspurse.org.
We have free boxes available at the OCC info table in the main foyer. Or you can simply find an average size shoe box. Plastic bins work well, too!
Decide whether you want to fill a shoe box for a girl or boy, and the age category:
- Age 2-4
- Age 5-9
- Age 10-14
Samaritan's Purse recommends selecting a quality “wow” toy such as a doll, soccer ball with pump, or stuffed animal. Then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies.OTHER SUGGESTIONS
Toys: Include items that children will immediately embrace such as toy cars, yo-yos, jump ropes, balls, toys that light up and make noise (with extra batteries), etc.
School Supplies: pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons, markers, notebooks, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
Non-liquid Hygiene Items: toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, washcloths, etc.
Accessories: T-shirts, socks, hats, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries), etc.
Crafts: Make your own items such as hair bows, finger puppets, and friendship bracelets. Download instructions here.
A Personal Note: You may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. If you include your name and address, the child may be able to write back.
Do Not Include
Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; candy or food; toothpaste; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
Bring your filled box back to church by Sunday, November 19. Don't forget to place the label on it - but DO NOT tape the box shut! Add $9 for shipping (checks made payable to Samaritan's Purse) if you are able - but if this is a hardship for you, we do have some money that has been donated specifically for shipping.
We'll pray over all the boxes as a church, then we'll load them up for our OCC team to take them to the collection center to begin their journey!
